Help keep the Clay Studio fires burning!

As one of the foremost ceramic facilities here in Missoula, the Clay Studio relies on the support of our community to thrive and grow. One of our main goals is to enhance the quality of life in Missoula by offering an opportunity for artists of all ages a chance to exercise their unique creative thinking through access to all aspects of the ceramic arts. We invite resident artists to come to Missoula to further develop their ceramic artwork in our community, we offer classes that push our students towards making the best work they can, and we consistently display high quality ceramics in our sales gallery and exhibition space.

The past year brought many exciting improvements to the Clay Studio of Missoula’s facilities and programs that only furthered our ability to continue fulfilling our goals. Among the highlights of 2011 were the construction of a soft brick downdraft gas kiln, the addition of a new commercial Olympic Raku kiln to be installed in the spring, and the establishing of our “Building Community Through Clay” Youth Scholarship Fund that aims to alleviate costs of materials and instruction in order to expand our youth programming and increase opportunities for Missoula’s low-income families.

These significant accomplishments were made possible by generous donations from members of our community. We are deeply grateful that they recognize the importance of our organization and of our role in helping to keep Missoula such a great place, and have in turn, offered us their support. The Clay Studio of Missoula is truly a communal undertaking.

We are already planning another great year. For 2012, our organization will focus on making improvements in the studio towards health and safety. For example, currently our electric kilns sit right next to our classroom space. Relocating and rewiring these kilns in a safe, isolated location would improve our studio experience by removing the firing exhaust and excess heat that the kilns emit from the studio workspace (which will keep studio temperatures more comfortable, especially in the summer months!). Other necessary projects include improving dry material storage and increasing studio ventilation.

The Clay Studio cannot make these important, necessary improvements without the support of our community. We sincerely hope that as you prepare to make your year-end contributions that you will, once again, choose to support the Clay Studio of Missoula by making a generous contribution to our Annual Fund. Your support would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to continuing to help you keep your hands in clay!
