Creating and Firing Work for the Soda Kiln

Recommended for students with previous knowledge of ceramic making processes  - either handbuilding or wheel throwing

 

Sundays, 6-9pm /Ten class meetings - September 17-November 19

This class is designed for intermediate and advanced students interested in creating works to be fired in the soda kiln to cone 10. In-class demonstrations will include wheel and hand building techniques to further develop student skills during this intensive course. Up to two class firings will take place to allow ample time for students to create works over the full session. Students will be expected to spend some time outside of class helping with the soda kiln during the firing, loading and unloading -schedule will be discussed with class.

 

 

Included in class fee:

  • First bag of clay
  • All firing fees for work created in ALL classes are included in the class fee  (size limit- items must not measure more than 20” in any direction)
  • access to work in studio outside of class meeting time

Access outside of class time will be restricted to business hours when other classes and programs are not in session in the classroom, and additional monitored  times. Your instructor will orient you on how to reserve open studio access on the first day of class.

 

We ask that students comply with all of our health and safety guidelines. A student waiver will be issued during the first class meeting with the most up-to-date guidance.
